17 July 2026 – Wicker Comes to E.Leclerc Przemyśl: When Shopping Turned into a Craft Workshop
Can you go to the supermarket for fresh bread, fruit and vegetables, and return home with a wicker creation woven by your own hands? As it turns out, you can!
During a special event held at E.Leclerc Przemyśl, customers had the opportunity not only to see our products up close, but above all to try their hand at traditional wicker weaving. It was a unique chance to discover that behind every wicker basket there is a person, their experience and a tradition passed down through generations.
A Partnership with a Deeper Meaning
As a supplier of wicker baskets to E.Leclerc Przemyśl, we wanted the beginning of our partnership to be about more than simply placing our products on the store shelves.
That is why, together with the store team, we organised workshops using natural wicker. Customers were able to see how the products they use every day are made and try traditional weaving techniques themselves.
Meetings like these are extremely important to us. They show that every basket represents not only a natural material and skilled handwork, but also the history of the region, family experience and a culture passed down from one generation to the next.
When Shopping Takes a Back Seat…
We must admit that we watched the participants’ reactions with huge smiles on our faces.
At first, there were hesitant questions:
“Me? I’m supposed to weave? It must be very difficult…”
After just a few minutes, the situation looked completely different.
“Just one more willow rod…”
“This is really fun!”
“Can I make another one?”
Some people stopped by only for a moment but stayed until the end of the workshop. Others paused out of curiosity and, after just a few minutes, discovered that wicker weaving could be even more engaging than promotions on their favourite products.
There were also stories about treasured baskets kept at home and memories of weaving traditions that had been practised by our grandparents’ generation.
And that was exactly the point.
A Craft Tradition Recognised by UNESCO
The workshops were also an opportunity to talk about something we are especially proud of.
Wickerwork belongs to the craft traditions that form part of the intangible cultural heritage inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. This recognition shows that hand weaving is not merely a method of producing practical objects. It is a living part of European culture, passed down through successive generations of craftspeople.
Our family has been preserving this tradition for many years. That is why we do not see our workshops simply as demonstrations, but as an opportunity to share at least a small part of the knowledge that we ourselves received from previous generations.
From the Willow Field to the Store Shelf
During our meetings, we often hear the question:
“Are these baskets really made by hand?”
The answer is yes.
Every basket begins its story on a willow plantation. It then passes into the hands of a skilled basket weaver, who transforms individual willow rods into a durable and functional product. Only at the very end of its journey does it reach the store and the home of its new owner.
The workshops made it possible to see this process from a completely different perspective and to understand how much patience, precision and experience are required to create even the smallest element.
