We are delighted to share some truly exceptional news - the “Basketry Traditions” have been officially inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity!
The decision was announced during the 20th Session of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee, held from December 8-13, 2025, in New Delhi.
This is a historic moment for the entire region of Rudnik nad Sanem, Łętownia, and the surrounding villages, where for more than 150 years willow weaving has shaped daily life, passion, and local identity. The UNESCO recognition confirms that Polish basketry is not only a beautiful tradition but also a living heritage that deserves protection and continued development.

What does this recognition mean for our community?
Being added to the UNESCO list opens new possibilities for educational, craft, and promotional initiatives. Growing interest in basketry supports projects that nurture the region’s cultural heritage and help pass it on to future generations.
It also strengthens local activities such as our willow-weaving workshops in Łętownia - a space where tradition becomes practice and participants can experience it in its most authentic form.

In light of this important distinction, we feel an even greater responsibility to promote the art of basketry. That’s why we invite everyone interested to take part in our workshops, where we:
- demonstrate weaving techniques,
- hare the history of the Lasowiacy people and local wickerwork,
- teach how to work with natural willow,
- create unique, hand-woven items.
This is the perfect moment to discover the beauty of a tradition that has just gained international recognition.

❤️ Let’s celebrate this success together!
The UNESCO listing is a source of pride for basket makers, enthusiasts, and the entire local community. It is also an inspiration to continue our efforts - to ensure that this willow-weaving tradition not only endures but continues to grow.
Thank you for being with us in this special moment.
Stay tuned for more updates - and of course, we invite you to weave with us!
